Some drinks are best enjoyed when consumed just once. Repeated consumption kills the fun, and the taste begins to feel bland. Something similar happened with "Cocktail"! Bollywood made a big mistake by creating a sequel to the 2012 romantic comedy; while the premise of the story remained the same, the cast changed.

Titled "Cocktail 2," the film is written by Luv Ranjan, co-produced by Dinesh Vijan, and directed by Homi Adajania. Released in theaters on June 19, 2026, the movie features an entertaining trio: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna.

The Story of Cocktail 2 (2026): A test of loyalty turns into betrayal and chaos!

Kunal (Shahid Kapoor), a charming chef, and his architect girlfriend Diya (Rashmika Mandanna) have been in a long-term live-in relationship. They travel to Sicily for a vacation, where they run into Diya's college friend Alisha, aka "Ally" (Kriti Sanon)—a single, carefree woman who loves to travel.

Suspicious of Kunal's loyalty, Diya decides to put him to the test through a calculated scheme and ropes Ally into the plan. When she convinces Kunal and Ellie to spend time together, something unexpected happens: Ellie falls in love with Kunal! But does Kunal love Ellie back? The story takes an awkward turn when Kunal finds himself caught between two women who love him and want to marry him. But who will he choose—Diya or Ellie? Watch the film to find out! One of the highlights of 'Cocktail 2' is its stunning cinematography, further enhanced by lavish sets and the actors' fancy, stylish outfits. The beautiful vistas of Sicily make the film a visual treat.

The songs are entertaining, too. Kriti Sanon sets the screen on fire with the high-energy dance track "Jag Se Laaj." Meanwhile, the romantic song "Tujhko," featuring Shahid and Rashmika, is heartwarming thanks to Arijit Singh's melodious voice.

Unfortunately, glamour alone doesn't make a film entertaining. Watching 'Cocktail 2' is an awkward and embarrassing experience; much like the 2012 original, the plot revolves around a love triangle. The story is entirely predictable. I had hoped for at least a few twists and turns in this clichéd narrative. But no! The screenplay made it seem as though the director simply told Shahid, Rashmika, and Kriti to do whatever they pleased once the cameras started rolling. It felt like the three of them were just having fun and improvising at will, rather than delivering serious performances. It felt as though the film lacked a script entirely, with the actors seemingly free to perform however they pleased—just random parties, dating, and trivial chatter. "Lights, camera, enjoy!"

And who would even call 'Cocktail 2' a "rom-com"? Every scene and line of dialogue felt contrived, forced, and dragged out. It seemed as if romance and comedy had been shoehorned in merely for the sake of the label. The emotions felt artificial, and there wasn't a single moment that made me laugh or allowed me to connect with the characters played by Shahid, Rashmika, and Kriti. Their chemistry was far too platonic; instead of a romantic vibe, it felt casual—almost as if Shahid were hanging out and having fun with two sisters rather than girlfriends. By the time the climax arrived, the only relief was knowing that this absurd, contrived drama was finally over. Kriti Sanon’s electrifying dance performance alongside Shahid Kapoor in the song "Jag Se Laaj" was the film's standout highlight!

The supporting cast plays no significant role in the story, and the screenplay revolves almost entirely around the three lead characters. The film could have been much better had the plot included some interesting twists. Before watching it, I was told that 'Cocktail 2' featured shocking and unexpected revelations that set it apart from the original film. However, having watched it, I can confidently say those claims were baseless. It is an average, poorly made, repetitive, and tedious follow-up (spiritual sequel) to 'Cocktail' (2012), resting on a forced love triangle. The film's two-and-a-half-hour runtime was completely unnecessary for such a lackluster drama. Furthermore, 'Cocktail 2' portrays a very negative view of women. The characters played by Rashmika and Kriti appear even more foolish as they bicker with each other, while Shahid's character comes across as a helpless man caught in the web of cunning women.
